The Center Parcs Les Landes de Gascogne estate can be reached via the A62 freeway, or by train to Agen station, followed by a short drive (45 minutes). This latest Center Parcs to open at the time of writing (2024) will already appeal to nature lovers, families looking for a variety of activities, and those wishing to recharge their batteries near the famous Bordeaux vineyards.
Opening in May 2022, Center Parcs Les Landes de Gascogne has been designed with respect for the local environment. Set amid the maritime pines typical of the Landes region, the estate blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings, with cottages built using sustainable materials that respect local architecture. The project is part of an eco-responsible approach to minimizing the impact on the fragile Landesecosystem.
Visitors can stay in one of the many cottages on offer, each offering modern comfort while immersed in nature. The cottages, of varying sizes, are designed to accommodate from two to twelve people, and are equipped with all the amenities needed for a pleasant stay. The choice of materials, the layout of spaces and the quality of services offered reflect Center Parcs ' commitment to sustainable tourism.
The Landes de Gascogne region offers a multitude of activities for all ages, so there's something for everyone, whether you're a thrill-seeker, a relaxation enthusiast or simply curious about the region.
One of Center Parcs' main attractions is undoubtedlyAqua Mundo, a gigantic indoor water park where young and old alike can enjoy themselves in complete safety. With its slides, wild river, heated pools and special areas for the little ones,Aqua Mundo is the place to be for families. Lovers of relaxation will enjoy the whirlpool baths and deckchairs set up under the palm trees, creating a veritable oasis of relaxation. The wild river in particular (a series of winding slides ) is a rare exclusivity appreciated by families.
Aside from water-based pleasures, the estate offers a variety of outdoor activities. You can explore the surrounding area by bike or on foot, thanks to the many marked trails winding through the pine forest. Thrill-seekers can try their hand attree climbing, archery or zip-lining, while those in search of peace and quiet can take part in outdoor yoga sessions or local cooking workshops. New: the outdoor laser game in the forest is suitable for all families. A team game lasting just a few minutes, where points are scored on the guns: fun and appreciated for moments of sharing.
The estate pays particular attention toenvironmental education. Activities such as nature walks enable visitors to discover the wealth of local flora and fauna. Younger visitors will particularly appreciate the educational farm, where they can get up close to the animals (and touch them, of course!), understand their way of life and take part in fun workshops on the theme of agriculture.
During your stay at Center Parcs Les Landes de Gascogne, the estate offers several restaurants serving a variety of cuisine, from regional specialities to more international dishes.
The estate's flagship restaurant, La Maison du Sud-Ouest, focuses on local produce. Here you can sample typical dishes such as foie gras, duck confit and dishes based on seasonal vegetables. This restaurant is a tribute to the gastronomy of the South-West, with a menu that evolves with the seasons to guarantee the freshness and authenticity of the dishes on offer.
For a more relaxed atmosphere, Marché Gourmand offers a fast-food concept, but with quality local produce. You can put together your own menu from the stalls offering cheeses, charcuterie, breads and pastries, or takeaway ready-made meals to enjoy in the comfort of your cottage. Problem: the "open kitchen" is manned by a poor waiter, who was alone during our test: 20-minute wait beforehand, 30-minute wait to pay. You badge your wristband, then only when the waiter has passed to the table can you stand up to choose your dishes, then sit back down and wait. What's the point of having both the shortcomings of self-service and table service? Dishes are served at different times (one person has finished when the other has just started...).
In short, a false good idea.
The cottages at Center Parcs Les Landes de Gascogne are designed to offer a comfortable stay in the heart of nature. Each home is designed to blend harmoniously into the surrounding landscape, while offering a warm, modern interior. For a park that's more recent than most, however, it's easy to regret the banality of the classic dwellings.
The cottages are available in a variety of sizes and configurations, from two-person cottages to large houses accommodating up to twelve guests. Each cottage is equipped with a fully functional kitchen, a comfortable living room, and spacious bedrooms, with decor inspired by the natural environment of the Landes. However, this is no surprise for Center Parcs.
The cottages are built using sustainable, environmentally-friendly materials. Heating and hot water systems are optimized to minimize energy consumption, while guaranteeing maximum comfort. What's more, each cottage has its own private terrace, ideal for enjoying the peace and quiet of the forest with family and friends. Negative point: the wooden cabins look more like metal "Barbapapa" houses than cabins. Not fundamentally ugly, but clearly different from the brochures to date. Some customers may be disappointed.
The park works closely with local producers to source fresh, high-quality produce, thus promoting short supply chains. The estate's restaurants showcase local produce, helping to promote regional specialities to visitors from all over France and beyond. Unfortunately, this collaboration is not very visible on the plate, as the level of cuisine is random.
The Landes de Gascogne estate is committed to sustainable tourism. In addition to its efforts to minimize the environmental impact of its infrastructures, the park raises visitors' awareness of the importance of preserving nature, through educational activities and ecological initiatives such as waste sorting and the use ofrenewable energies.
If you have the time and inclination to discover more of the region, Lot-et-Garonne is full of treasures to explore. Just a few kilometers from the estate, the bastide town of Vianne, a fortified medieval village, is well worth a visit for its ramparts and fascinating history. Wine lovers can also visit the vineyards of Buzet, a 30-minute drive away, to sample the region's famous crus.
Just an hour's drive away, the Château de Bonaguil is another historic gem not to be missed. This perfectly preserved 13th-century fortified castle offers an insight into the region's medieval past, with guided tours to delight young and old alike.
Finally, for total immersion in local culture, don't miss the farmers' markets held regularly in the surrounding villages. You'll find fresh, handcrafted products, and be able to chat with local producers, true ambassadors of their terroir.
Whether you're looking for relaxation, adventure or cultural discovery, Center Parcs Les Landes de Gascogne offers an experience combining comfort, nature and respect for the environment. Like all Center Parcs, it's a friendly place to reconnect with nature, while enjoying a wide range of activities for all ages. However, its wristband system was faulty when it came to reservations (notably the rental of an "eWall" game, where immediate reservation was impossible, the kiosks broken, and the staff absent). While the staff are friendly, the overall organization is very average. In short? To be improved, because for the moment, it's the least interesting of the French Center Parcs.
